Katie's Boho Gatherings bag in progress

I didn't do much all day....cleaned a bit, floated a while, dyed some lace and trim, watched the Talk, and played a game on Facebook for a little while, yes, I joined a garden game and it is fun but I don't live on it like I did playing 6 games.
After DH got home and we ate, I headed up stairs to figure out what I would do for Katie's Boho bag. The lace and trim I dyed was pale pink with a bit of ecru. Katie loves pink and I looked above my cutting table and saw the perfect flap. I felted a pink piece last year and lost it for months. I hung it with the dyed laces hoping I would be inspired to use it on something. Well, the perfect home for it is on Katie's bag.
I will be embellishing the section under the flap with a butterfly, trims, etc then assemble it this evening and I am so happy that I get to mail Nic's and Katie's together. I hated the thought of them receiving a week apart.
Katie is a petite teenager so I made her bag a tiny bit smaller. Still plenty of room for gathering goodies though.
I almost fainted when I took the dyed trim and lace upstairs intending on digging through my fringe to hopefully find something to coordinate and discovering Tish had sent me the perfect tassel trim. It was serendipitous. Again, Thank you Tish :-) I'm off to assemble..have a great evening!

Katie leads the parade!

My beautiful sweet niece Katie led the Santa Clarita Fourth of July parade today!!! Go Katie!!!
"An all-Santa Clarita Valley high school marching band will be stepping out today with other entries in the Santa Clarita Fourth of July parade

It’s the first time the long-running parade has had such a band.

“You can’t have a parade without a band,” said Marilyn Hackett, who helped coordinate the band performance. “You need the music and the marching and the excitement of a live band.”

However, the fact is that the parade has long existed without a high school marching band, its date in frustrating conflict with high school and vacation schedules for th
e all-volunteer parade organizing committee that’s tried repeatedly to secure the traditional parade mainstay.

Known as the SCV Unified Marching Band, the band will be made up of 100 high school musicians from all six Santa Clarita Valley comprehensive high schools, Hackett said. Canyon High School senior Katie Winter will lead the band as drum majorette."

Nic's bag progress

All day it rained...and rained...and rained...and its still raining. The sky is black, lightening is everywhere and thunder has been shaking the ground for hours...another huge limb broken from the Maple tree landed near the mail box. I only peeked out the front window when I heard the crash then back to my cozy spot making my own sunshine today. I've stitched all morning in between loads of laundry. The flap for Nic's Boho bag is finished.......... I told you it would be similar to Dawn's bag....just a slight difference in colors. Now it is time to assemble. Since I won't be venturing out today I believe I will finish this today which would be great because I must go to the post office tomorrow and I'd love to mail it off. Oh my! DH just came in carrying a box from the mail lady..................stay tuned!

Rainy day..time for some stitching!

We have been having lovely weather and today we are having a nice rain which is great because I would rather be stitching than doing more yard work. The grass grows much too quickly and it seems when I finish working on the yard and flower garden it is time to start over again leaving me no time to stitch. My lawn is nothing to brag about, we have what I call "country grass". Its the grass you get when you live in the country and it has many types of weeds in it but looks fine when mowed,LOL. A friend once asked if we fertilized. I replied,"We live in the country, of course not." Well, our next door neighbor fertilizes so I put up a privacy fence and planted a double row of American Arborvitae. Just kidding, I did those things however it was because my garden is on the side they built on and I didn't want to be bending over with spectators if you know what I mean.

Their lawn is beautiful. Rolling green perfect lawn, manicured shrubs around the house and two pots of flowers near the sidewalk...... then you pass the trees and fence and there's my country lawn and a peek into a garden that has gone wild with 5 foot fern. Two stumps that need cut the rest of the way down, Sorry neighbor, but I am a crazy quilter, no time for such things. Oh well, it is maintained and I'm happy with it and that is most important. I wouldn't give up my old brick Victorian farmhouse for anything.
It is so relaxing to walk through the garden paths I've created dodging a fern here and there anticipating a hidden bloom. The most memorable lesson in my Horticulture class was making "rooms" in your flower garden. It is like a grown up version of when I played at the edge of the woods and building "rooms" by dividing my space with limbs and anything I could find to stack up to separate my "home" walls. Don't you wish you had photos of the neat things you did as a child? I sure do. What a scrapbook I would have.

It is supposed to get very hot over the weekend so I had better get busy on Nicole's Boho bag so I can enjoy some pool time. Her bag will be similar to Dawn's and then I will be making a smaller version in Pink for Katy then two more after that for friends. I better get off of here...have a great day and followers, don't forget to enter the dfly giveaway on the prior post :-)
