Poppy tag

Is it a sea urchin?????? Is it an alien from outer space????? No, it is the last poppy from my garden.
Lelia from "stitches of life" blog, posted a poppy on her blog recently and when I walked through the garden this evening I couldn't help but run in for my camera. My last poppy of the season has bloomed. One single bright happy orange burst of color in the center of the garden.

I thought I would start a little game of "poppy tag". If you have a photo of a poppy in your garden or have taken a picture recently, share it on your blog and send me your link so I can see it too.

Delightful students and coupon sharing

Yesterday I had the pleasure of teaching Lelia and Karol crazy quilting. Two fun, sweet, and talented ladies I met last year at the quilt show and learned they were fellow bloggers. They are also NANI (Needle Artisans of Northern Indiana)members, an EGA(Embroiderers Guild of America) branch which I am joining next month.

I put together kits for needle books they both decided to make. Working on a 5"x7" area to learn crazy quilting works great. Plenty of seams to learn sitching and embroidery yet not overwhelming.
Last month I asked Ellen if she would embroider a few needle names on her embroidery machine for the ladies to add to the pages in their books, so I was excited to include them in their kits. They both did a beautiful job of piecing.

Both being experienced needle women, they learned the basic CQ stitches with no problem. As usual I get so lost in the moment when in my studio, I forgot to get pics of their books in progress however I did get a pic after the piecing was complete. This is Lelia's cover........... and this is Karols.Beautiful work ladies! Maybe when they finish embellishing I could get a pic to share. I may have helped create two more CQ addicts. Shame on me! ;-) It was a very enjoyable Saturday...even with interruptions from DH.(sorry girls)

I have been lax in my posting, so I will leave you with a little gift. A coupon good starting Monday at Hob Lob. Enjoy!

Good morning!!!

I think I am back in the groove of things now. After being away from my garden for four days I see it from a different perspective. I guess that goes for everything, including the way we think. Refreshing ones self is something I highly recommend. I plan on doing it more often and am considering a possible week in Florida with Jilly bean in October. She wants to veg out on the beach and stash shop. I would be nuts not to take her up on that. I know it would be a comfortable trip like the PA trip with Laney. I need to decide very soon so we can get tickets early though. Oh what to do...........

I knew a trip to the beach would be first on my agenda, so mom suggested a stroll and off we went. It was chilly and overcast, but the lake's magical powers called to us and we braved the weather and took a walk. The waves were pretty big and the shoreline had shrunk as the water was high and made it impossible to continue down the shoreline without stepping in the cold water. We chose to turn around and call it quits, but not without finding many mermaid's tears, and my special blue piece :-).

This morning I am greeted by this pile of envelopes on my studio floor. Puzzle pieces from around the globe. I will be swapping these out this evening with DH and hopefully getting them shipped off to their recipients this week. I want to make sure everyone who participated has sent them before I end this round of the swap.

I must get things in order and prepare for a private crazy quilt class on Saturday. Two sweet new friends, Karol and Lelia want to learn cq and will be making a needle book. They took my Inner Child Doll class and I am excited to teach them all I can about cq ,however these two are exquisite needlewomen and their work is perfection. They will laugh when they find cq is all about expressing yourself freely with no patterns or rules and mistakes can be turned into happy surprises.I can only imagine the beautiful things they will create with this technique.
I hope they enjoy it.

After a garden walk this morning, I must update my garden blog, so off I go to do that before assembling the four puzzle pieces I worked on in PA. I wish you all a pleasant Wednesday (or Thursday for AU friends) :-)

Back from PA

No housework, no errands, no internet, no shopping for stash....but yes, a bit of stitching. I did embellish four more puzzle pieces while watching the sun rise over the mountain......................

I had such a great time with Laney in PA. The trip was a breeze, great weather, and such a relaxing environment. Gorgeous views of the mountains brought back memories of youth, cousins, and vacations to grandmas. I really don't know where to start. I guess I will just write about bits here and there as they come to mind.
At the start of our trip Laney spotted a blimp....it was only advertising Direct TV.

Hours later the mountains are coming in to view............
Heading toward Johnstown PA eight hours later. The next day we drove through an old established neighborhood on our way to the cemetery where Laney's parents and brother are. It was great to see every home had the state flower planted in the yard....the Rhododendron. Gorgeous!I loved the lattice wooden doors on this church.Arriving at the cemetery....the Johnstown flood claimed many lives and so many were unknown as you can see at these unmarked grave sites. They are at the entrance to the cemetary for all to remember the disaster. As some of you may know, I find cemetaries to hold much beauty and walk through them whenever possible. This one was breathtakingly beautiful. I wish I had better pictures, but I was so amazed at this cemetery with the rolling hills spotted with huge Rodedendrons and gorgeous views that I couldn't focus on picture taking as I soaked in the beauty. This picture shows only a fraction of the size. It had so many rolling hills with the blue sky as a background, and it looked like you were on top of the world.

Before heading back we stopped at the Incline Plane. Naturally I was too chicken to ride the plane down, but I did go out on the balcony, well almost all the way to the edge. It was too nerve wrecking to actually step to the railing, but I got the pics I wanted.. Laney grew up here, so she had no problem.
The view was awesome. Bethlehem Steel plants speckle the area below. This just looked too scarey for me! The incline planes pass each other as one goes up...the other goes down.On Sunday we had to take Laney's niece away from her home so her family could set up her 50th birthday party so we visited the Discovery Museum. It was very interesting and I learned a lot about the imigrants that settled in Johnstown. Slovaks,Jews,Amish, etc. Sad and very hard lives they led.
Laney on the right and Karen, her niece on the left as we depart the museum and head to the party!!! It was sunny and kind of cool which was great weather for an outdoor party. Laney on a horse for the first time ever! Go Laney!!!! Ride em cowgirl!!!!
Waving goodbye, we head home to Indiana with fun memories spent together.
I enjoyed every minute and I even got to visit my aunt Dottie who was only 20 minutes from where we stayed. She is the one I had made the neck pouch for. I was touched and happy to see it hanging at the foot of her bed with her eyeglasses in it. That was such an unexpected treat. My mother's only sibling and my favorite aunt. She was very happy to see me and called mom immediately. I can't thank Laney enough for insisting we find her, and for inviting me to accompany her on this road trip down memory lane.

I'm trying to catch up on all of my blogs. The Pieces of Friendship blog should be caught up. I had so many packages waiting for my return. I can't wait to swap them oput and send them on their way.
Tomorrow I hope to update the Comfort Doll blog and my garden blog although not much is happening there. Have a great evening, I am heading to bed early tonight so I can get a lot accomplished tomorrow.
