Red isn't so scary!

Well, I decided to make the last night light red. You know my feelings on red however.... It wasn't so bad working with red. Romance and red go hand in hand...red hearts...red roses...red lips..etc. So, this shade is hopefully romantic looking. The dark area that looks black is a dark red velvet. I chose a red beaded fringe which I will add tonight and share tomorrow early am or evening. Depends on if I am running late or not :-)I didn't think I would get both finished so quickly, but now I can ship them off Saturday. Wooo Hooo!

Today was warm but way too windy to spend any time outside. Mom wasn't home so I spent the day finishing small things and laundry. Tomorrow I absolutely have to go paint because I just learned the place was just rented this evening. That was fast! So tomorrow think of me in a white room...then another...and another...you get the picture. I will never live in a house with white walls alone. Never ever ever ever.
See you soon.

Tube bead tutorial for friend

A friend requested a little tutorial of how I put together the tube beads that Wendy demonstrated, so here it is.

The acrylic tubing is available in various sizes. I used the 1/4" for these beads. Cut desired length with scissors. I use about an inch per bead.
Slip a word that you have printed or cut from a book into the tubing. I used words I printed onto cotton poplin sheets.
Put a large bead on the eye pin, then go through a rivet. I found these flower shaped rivets at Hobby Lobby in several metallic colors.Cap the tubing with the rivet. Feed smaller beads onto the eye pin inside the tubing. Cap the other end with rivet, larger bead, then twist eye pin in circle with tool and twist a couple times before cutting.

Playing hooky???

I'm not sure if I'm playing hooky from painting today or not. I have so many little things to do I just can't seem to make myself stand around painting white walls all day. Until I decide on that, I must get my blog fix in and post. First I want to wave to Wendy M and Sue V (waving) ;-)

The puzzle swap blog is really taking off. As I discover pieces from blog participants, I add them for inspiration. It is exciting to see these pieces take shape.

I wish I had a better photo , in person this brooch is gorgeous. Soft smokey blue with AB clear stones. The picture doesn't come close to revealing it's sparkling beauty. It was one of my antique shop finds and you can imagine what I will be doing with it. Or can you?

Last night I finished stitching this CQ shade. I love the delicate organza trim in the upper right corner. It is a soft teal blue and brown embroidered with sequins and beads . It is from Flights of Fancy, the Queen of exquisite trims!
The flapper has the prettiest ruby lips. Such a beauty! I will assemble the shade and work on one more this evening. Then I can relax...yeah right!

And you thought I wouldn't be doing some kind of stitching this week! Oh, wait a minute....that was me. Whoops! Once a CQ addict, always a CQ addict I'm afraid!

Well, I have made up my mind, I am playing hooky. The sun is out, it is supposed to be almost 60 degrees, and as soon as I pull myself away from this computer I will finish small things and then around noon pick mom up to drive by the beach to see how much ice has melted. Then I will treat her to lunch and return home to work on the shades. Sounds like a great plan to me.
I hope you all have a nice day, and once in a while, play hookey! It's good for the soul :-)

Good morning!

I hope everyone is having a great morning....or evening depending on where you are. This weekend flew by so quickly. It was a cold weekend, and yesterday it looked like we were going to get a blizzard, then the sun came out and then it snowed again. We ended up with just a dusting of snow in our yard. How weird was that!
Well, although still freezing, the sun is out this morning and I have errands to run. I'm a bit tired because after watching Brother's and Sister's two hour event last night, I wasn't tired and didn't get to sleep until midnight. I will go to sleep early tonight because starting tomorrow I will be stuck in a duplex painting white walls. Hopefully I can finish by Saturday because I know I will need to play with color!!!!!

Yesterday I joined Sue and Wendy for open studio play. Wendy was making photo charms and showed her transfers using Gesso. I am learning so much from those gals. I'm going to try that next weekend. I have a few ideas floating around that I must apply to fabrics and fibers.

Sue was playing with her glass flower petals I ground for us when she loaned me her glass grinder. Oooops! Speaking of grinders, I HAVE ONE!!!! I haven't had a chance to turn it on yet, but watch out when I do. Anyway, Sue's petals were neat and I can't wait to see that finished.

I played around with the tube beads Wendy showed me a few weeks ago. I want to make a jar full to have when I need them. It is always a good thing to be able to make embellishment elements when you can. So much more personal plus it is fun to see what you can come up with.

Sue loaned me another neat book. It has some great ideas. I thumbed through it last night but didn't have time to really delve into it. Her extensive library is amazing. DVD's, books, plus seeing what those two creative queens come up with are enough to keep this gal busy and inspired forever! I'm still amazed at how we haven't hooked up before living near each other forever, but then again, all three of us are at the same point in our lives, which makes it so pleasant and the creative outlet we need. As hesitant as I was to teach the first class at the Art Center, I now see why I was meant to. I met such nice women who I can't imagine not knowing now. They have enriched my life in many ways. Karen and Becky , Jilly Bean, and Wendy and Sue. I would have never imagined gaining such friendship through teaching a class.

Confession.....I didn't finish my fourth puzzle piece yet. I will stitch a bit in the evenings if I am able. The small bit of blue in the image (flower) bothered me and I couldn't ignore its presence so I am adding bits of blue. This is what I have so far. Yes, there is a dragonfly charm on this one too. I will add one to all my pieces. In my little world, I have dedicated the dragonfly symbol to represent friendship.
I have to get going, time waits for no one...or so they say. Hopefully I will want to blog this week after painting, but if not....I'll make up for it next week! Take care and be creative!
