Vintage purse clasp that inspired purse

Sometimes it only takes a piece of old hardware to inspire a project. Last year a dear friend presented me with a beautiful vintage purse clasp. I was in shock. I could not believe she could part with it. She assured me she would store it in a box, so I accepted it and felt like a child who had been given the keys to a candy store, ok, a woman who had been given the keys to a chocolate shop. There is a gold swan on each side of the clasp which attaches to the chain. A gold shell charm dangles under the push button release clasp. The metal has a beautiful patina. I can imagine the original purse being velvet, tapestry,or perhaps brocade or beaded. It must have been a favorite for it to have been so worn beyond repair. Thank goodness someone had the good sense to salvage the clasp. I don't know where my friend found it, I was too excited to ask or even think about it at the time. The swan clasp led me to go with a water theme. Since that is my favorite theme, it wasn't too hard to figure out the rest. It was quite fun to "build" this purse from scraps, tiny shells, beads, threads, and beautiful pastel fabrics.

  3. Your purses and pouches etc are INCREDIBLE. I don't know how you could do such fine, delicate, detailed work. There are so many tiny pieces involved and you have a knack of putting them together so beautifully.
